Sheffield's music scene was set ablaze yesterday as renowned DJ AG orchestrated an unexpected pop-up performance that left the city buzzing. The highlight of the event was the surprise appearances by global superstar Ed Sheeran and grime legend JME, who joined DJ AG on stage, creating an unforgettable experience for fans and local artists alike.
The B1X Team contacted AG at the beginning of November 2024 about the idea of him coming to Sheffield or adding Sheffield to his tour dates as it was not originally in the plans. From what we have seen when the Mobos happened and the hard work we knew is being put in by artists and platforms, we just had to at least make these guys aware of what is going on in Sheffield. We became excited when AGs team said:
"If you have a list of artists, that’d be really helpful for us to figure out potential dates and see if this can work before the year ends."
and of course we sent them everyone we could think of including the platforms actively working to give young artists and talent and opportunity and platform from Sheffield such as Pattern + Push. A bit of time went by and we did not see anything so we remained hopeful that things were still moving behind the scenes, others were doing their parts and eventually we would see something special through a collaborative effort of involvement from start, middle and end with some involved throughout the entire project.
6 months later, and WOW, the city came out in force to see AG, JME and Ed Sheeran but we were so happy to see people stick around to check out all the local talent Sheffield has to offer also. Acts such as Coco who continues to make waves in music working with Toddla T went down to demonstrate Sheffield is about business.
The live stream only got better as by now we have to say is 1 of the kings of Bassline, KDot, appeared to show AG what the home of Bassline is about. Ed Sheeran was for sure feeling the vibes so do not be surprised if you see a Ed Sheeran Bassline banger in the near fututre. Skinz made an appearance on the Live along with the local fast rising Dancehall artist Khouri Love along with his team to turn up the energy. We can not forget Aziza who came out ready to show what she can do from rapping to the singing and AG and everyone around was loving what she brought to the live stream. A number of the artists that went through the Pattern + Push or Slam Barz development programme made an appearance and had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills.
All of this just confirmed that AGs team had a look around, networked and everyone got on board to make sure this happened while also contributing what they could in whatever capacity to make it happen. This to us is an amazing symbol of what is possible and what is to come in the future for Sheffield with this kind of positive energy.
Overall, we are buzzing to see the talent of Sheffield get such a big opportunity and experience that they can treasure for years to come and it is always good when big brands like AG come to Sheffield to shine some light on the city.
This is a great example also of what can happen when people come together for the same goal and contribute to that cause regardless how big or small of a part you played. On Sunday 18th May, Sheffield City and the scene won and even we are shocked at some of the talent on display during the live we had no idea about and this is what it is all about, coming TOGETHER!
We hope AG and the team comes back real soon and we hope to see Sheffield keep this momentum up as you can feel the scene catching ablaze again after so long of being dormant. We are really happy that some of artists that have been grinding for years are now getting their flowers and long may this continue!
